10-Year Old Treasure Chest Worth $1 Million Finally Found In The Rocky Mountains

Maps of World

In a classic case of “finders keepers,” a treasure chest filled with jewelry was discovered in the Rocky Mountains on June 6, 2020 after years of searching. The treasure, which has been estimated to hold at least one to two million dollars’ worth of gold, gems and jewelry, was hidden at least a decade ago by Forrest Fenn, a wealthy New Mexico art collector.

According to CNN, tons of treasure hunters, some who even lost their lives in the process –

Including one such treasure hunter in late March – have attempted to search for the treasure, but they all came up in vain. That was until multimillionaire Fenn shared that someone was finally able to locate the esteemed chest just a few days ago.

According to 89-year old Fenn, the bronze chest held gold, artifacts, rare coins, emeralds, diamonds and other treasures within the box. Apparently, he had hidden the treasure “somewhere in the mountains north of Santa Fe” between the years 2009 and 2010, all in the hopes to get people to get out and “explore nature.”

Amazingly, the only clue that was given to those in search of the cache was a nine-stanza poem, which had been included in Fenn’s 2010 memoir fittingly entitled, The Thrill of the Chase. On the same page, it also says, “This poem written by Forrest Fenn contains nine clues that if followed precisely, will lead to the end of his rainbow and the treasure. Happy Hunting!”

Fenn explained that while he doesn’t know who found the treasure, he could finally disclose the information of where he had hid it all those years ago. He said in a statement, “It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and had not moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago.”

His book also told readers, “If you are searching for Forrest’s treasure please stay safe, take adequate supplies and a GPS. The chest is not in a dangerous place. Remember, it weighs 42 pounds and an old man carried it to its secret location,” which was apparently either in Colorado, New Mexico, Montana or Wyoming. But in the end, Fenn never revealed it’s true location.

He even warned those searching with their kids to “Keep your children close in the mountains and search at your own risk. Good luck in the chase.”

Although the identity of the treasure finder has yet to be made public, the only detail he did share was that the man was from “back East.”

He also cited, “I do not know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot. I congratulate the thousands of people who participated in the search and hope they will continue to be drawn by the promise of other discoveries.”

He ended his statement by sharing, “So the search is over. Look for more information and photos in the coming days.” – Forrest
