A missionary friend who was living in Chicago picked them up and brought them to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. They quickly checked Brooklyn in and made sure that she was stable, then the hospital staff allowed them to rest to get ready for the grueling 10-hour surgery the next day.

A Quick Recovery

When Brooklyn woke up after her lengthy surgery, although groggy, she was in good spirits. The Chief of Transplant Surgery, Riccardo Superina said when asked about her recovery, “I would think at this point really excellent. Usually, the first 24 hours are the most critical, and in her case, it’s gone well.” She woke up quickly, responded to the satisfaction of the doctors, and basically was on the road to a full recovery.
