When ISIS learned about the Orlando, Florida, shooting which took place on Sunday, the terrorists celebrated. This is because the shooter, identified as Omar Mateen, allegedly pledged himself to the organization moments before killing 49 people and injuring at least 50 more.

Of course, the Islamic extremist group considered it a win by default, as being gay has been outlawed and is punishable by death. Grim videos even exist of ISIS members publicly executing LGBT people.

For this reason, Anonymous’ victory of hacking ISIS’ Twitter and transforming accounts into a whirlwind of color, acceptance and gay pride is something worth celebrating. While the world mourned – and continues to grieve for – the souls lost in the attack, hacktivists have been infiltrating hundreds of pro-ISIS Twitter accounts and giving them wonderfully gay makeovers.

MSN reports that a hacker who goes by the name WauchulaGhost is responsible for the majority of the attacks. Reported, he broke into ISIS account @gi_h_a_d35, changed his profile picture to a gay flag, then tweeted the following:

“Hello World. It’s time I share with you a little secret…I’m Gay and I’m Proud!! #GayPride #OrlandoWillNotBeForgotten !!! #GhostOfNoNation”

IP Addresses, contact information and phone numbers were also Tweeted out by the activist for other hackers to use.

By no means will hacking Twitter accounts bring down the caliphate, but at least for a few days, some of the horrendous messages being promoted by ISIS followers will be replaced with ideals of love and acceptance.

This is exactly what hacker WauchulaGhost had in mind. He explained his reasoning for attacking Islamic extremists in this way:

“I did it for the lives lost in Orlando.

Daesh [ISIS] have been spreading and praising the attack, so I thought I would defend those that were lost. The taking of innocent lives will not be tolerated.

Our actions redirected at Jihadist extremists. Many of our own group [group of hackers] are Muslim and we respect all religions that do not take innocent lives.”
