The Battle of Britain

The Messerschmitt Bf 109s were notoriously involved in a fight with Great Britain’s Supermarine Spitfires in 1940 in the Battle of Britain. Experts agree that the Messerschmitt Bf 109’s guns killed more enemy pilots than most other fighter planes of the time.

Built in massive numbers

The planes were also built in massive numbers, believed to be more than 33,000, according to the Museum of Flight of Washington state. They were also produced for other countries outside of Germany, especially those in the “Axis powers.”
