Last January 24, two elephants were able to escape from a circus in Russia that ended up causing some entertaining traffic delays because they started playing in the snow.

Based on the Instagram post (@circus.ekaterinberg) of the Yekaterinberg Circus, two Asian elephants named Carla, 45, and Roni, 50 were taken on a short walk outside the premises before they were scheduled to be taken to St. Petersburg to attend an Italian Circus show that was hosted by the Bolshoi State St. Petersburg Circus, when they suddenly were able to escape from their handlers.

The video they posted on Instagram showed the elephants playing in the snow and rolling on top of it while their handlers kept trying to convince them to go back inside the circus building, which proved to be quite unsuccessful.

The Instagram post said that: “The elephants have their own character and emotions, they are very smart. They walked outside and got very happy from seeing the snow, the trees and the pedestrians whom they took for spectators. Roni stayed by one of the trees while Carla walked towards a pile of snow.”

The road had to be blocked to make sure that these elephants wouldn’t get into any altercations with moving vehicles passing through.

After some time, they were eventually brought back to the circus building and loaded into the vehicle that was meant to take them to the circus in St. Petersburg.
