After hearing the gruesome details of what Krebs had done to both girls, his defense team looked into his childhood to see if his upbringing was to blame. They argued that Rex was the result of an abusive father, and an alcoholic mother who had left him and his siblings as young children. His uncle, Art Krebs, who heard about what was going on, decided to visit Rex’s dad Allan, to tell him about what was going on. His uncle saw a photo of Krebs and said, “Rex had this big handlebar mustache and his head was all shaved. I didn’t recognize the kid.
