Though difficult trials may befall us all, good can arise out of even the most horrendous situations. That truth was recently reaffirmed when world-famous Disney World made a massive donation to those affected by the tragic shooting which took place earlier this week.

In case you have not yet been informed, a man identified as Omar Mateen opened fire at a gay club in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, murdering at least 49 victims and wounding over 50. Labeled the ‘worst massacre in modern U.S. history’ – though some seem to be forgetting about the Wounded Knee Massacre, the tragedy has caused many to despair, as well as question the path humanity is on.

Of course, while some would prefer to use the attack as an excuse to promote Islamophobia, the incident has also brought many people together. And, the suffering has also inspired massive generosity and compassion from none other than the theme park Disney World, which is based in Orlando.

Walt Disney Company announced on its website:

“Today, the Walt Disney Company is announcing a $1 million cash commitment to the OneOrlando Fund, established by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to assist those affected by the tragic events in Orlando. Also, eligible donations from Disney employees will be matched dollar for dollar by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.”

Bob Chapek, chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, also expressed the following:

“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act. With 74,000 Cast Members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”

In addition, Disney has established five different blood banks around their parks so that employees can assist the victims by donating blood.

By no means is this the only charitable act that has helped bring people together after the shooting, but it is worthy of attention. This is just one more example that good people do exist in this world, and that love will always triumph over hate crimes.
