Strolling along on a particularly hot day in Florida, Jeff Longo spotted something unusual lying on the sidewalk. To his surprise, it was a newborn southern flying squirrel. Knowing the creature was as good as dead if he left it out to bake on the hot sidewalk, Jeff decided to take him into his home and care for it. He found out later that ‘it’ was a female, therefore named her Biscuits.
Biscuits’ chances of survival were slim without her mother, but Jeff was determined to save her. This is her incredible story:
Found as a newborn, Biscuits was incredibly tiny.
At first Jeff wasn’t even sure what type of animal she was.
Many people told him she’d never survive…
But Jeff knew that her life could be saved.
She was quite determined as well!
Then one day… she opened her eyes.
As it turns out, baby flying squirrels are adorable!
She met all the family members…
And Jeff learned how to properly care for Biscuits.
He hand-fed her every two hours,
and devoted all his time to to the baby. Eventually she grew out of the danger zone.
Biscuits even learned how to skate.
And became known as the ‘goofy one’.
Who could resist those eyes??
Over time, Biscuits grew to be a beautiful animal.
And she enjoys every day in her adopted home.
Three months after being found on a sidewalk, Biscuits is happy as can be!
And to think everyone thought Jeff should give up on her…
She’s definitely a Daddy’s girl.
