Life on the line
The Ural mines aren’t exactly built to be sturdy. It was constructed quickly, which means that the supports on the walls and ceilings were weak. There was a high risk for gas leaks such as methane and hydrogen sulphide carbon dioxide. Anyone who stayed in there for too long could be trapped until he or she suffocated. Anybody in his or her right mind wouldn’t even think of setting foot at the mine’s entrance.
