FBI Was ‘Aware’ of UFO Sighting By American Airlines Pilot Over New Mexico

Fox News

UFO and alien sightings in the area of the southwestern state of New Mexico are really nothing new. In fact, tens of thousands of people flock there annually just to get up close and personal with famous sites that have reportedly had close encounters with the 3rd kind. Alleged alien crash sites like Roswell and the Aztec UFO crash, as well as other significant sightings like the Lonnie Zamora case, continue to garner curiosity throughout the years.

And because of this area’s exciting past, it shouldn’t be surprising that there has been yet another report of an unidentified flying object, or UFO, sighting again over New Mexico. Except this time, it was a commercial airline pilot that had been flying a commercial flight on a Sunday afternoon when he would spot something he had never seen before.

On February 21, at around 1 p.m. local time, the pilot of flight 2292 of American Airlines noticed an unidentified aerial craft swiftly flying across the northern part of New Mexico, surprising the pilot. As a matter of fact, the pilot was so startled he shared his surprise with air traffic controllers on the air, expressing his concern over the incredibly fast flying object he’d noticed high above the aircraft he was piloting.

Self-described “stealth chaser” Steve Douglass of Amarillo, Texas managed to get his hands on the 15-second recording of the pilot sharing his shock at what he’d seen, which Douglass released on his Deep Black Horizon blog. In the recording, the pilot can be overheard speaking with the air traffic controllers about what he’d seen whizzing across the clouds while he was flying the commercial flight.

The pilot can be heard asking the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) traffic controllers, “Do you have any targets up here?”

“We just had something go right over the top of us. I hate to say this, but it looked like a long, cylindrical object that almost looked like a cruise missile type of thing moving really fast, and went right over the top of us,” he added.

According to Douglass, the answer of the Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center was inaudible because of the local air traffic coming from Amarillo that happened to interfere with their channel. Douglass, who also authored the book “The Comprehensive Guide to Military Monitoring,” says that it was notable that there was “no significant military aircraft presence was noted on ADS-B logs.” In fact, the flight managed to land at the destination airport in Phoenix, Arizona, without any further incidents or sightings.

Although the FAA hasn’t said anything about the eerie skirmish with the unidentified object, American Airlines has since confirmed that the recording of the radio communications between the pilot and the pilot is in fact, legitimate.

A spokesperson for American Airlines wrote an email to Fox News, explaining, “Following a debrief with our Flight Crew and additional information received, we can confirm this radio transmission was from American Airlines Flight 2292 on Feb. 21.” But the spokesperson also told them that if they have other questions, they need to ask the FBI.

Of course when that happened, the FBI wasn’t exactly forthcoming.

The agency’s spokesman, Frank Connor, also wrote an email to address what had gone on. He said,“The FBI is aware of the reported incident. While our policy is to neither confirm nor deny investigations, the FBI works continuously with our federal, state, local and tribal partners to share intelligence and protect the public.”

Moreover, the authorities at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque also shared that had been notified through the media, but despite the warning, the officials at the base were not talking about the incident.

Lally Laksbergs told Wall Street Journal,“We have no knowledge of this. We’re not aware of anything.” Meanwhile, the officials at the White Sands Missile Range in southern New Mexico still haven’t responded to any questions from the media. But according to Douglass, despite their silence, he’s doubtful that the airline had had a close encounter with a military projectile.

Douglass also revealed to KVII News, where he works as a photographer,“It was a Sunday. Basically, it’s a military’s day off.”

“When tests occur, the military notifies the FAA, aircraft are kept out of the area and their schedules and strict flight lanes as aircraft need to stay in to not interfere with these tests. That’s not what happened,” he explained.

He also added,“Whatever it was came fast, right at them and right over them, which gave them a big enough scare that they had to report it. If the military can’t explain what it is, what’s flying out there that we don’t know about?”

Recently, U.S. government officials have been much more vocal when it comes to talking about UFOs, although they prefer to call them unidentified aerial phenomena or UAPs.

Back in September of 2019, U.S. Navy pilots managed to capture video footage of alleged UFOs flying around in the sky. Eventually, Navy officials admitted that the widely-circulated footage was, indeed, “unknown” objects that happened to fly into U.S. airspace.

These videos were released some months before by To The Stars Academy of Arts & Sciences (TTS), which is actually a private ‘UFO research organization’ that was founded by none other than the former frontman of the nineties band Blink 182, Tom De Longe.

And given that the past few years have had more sightings of UFOs, this probably won’t be the last time.
