They don’t make decisions lightly, and for the cops, they arrested Carl because the clues seemed to point powerfully to his direction.

The deputy attorneys also read on the statements Carl made at the time his wife was murdered. There were definitely a lot of inconsistencies in what he said. More importantly, he seemed to know facts that only a killer would know. For them, that had already been a warning light.
