Eva Mozes and her twin sister, Miriam, were born in Portz, Romania. Her parents, Alexander and Jaffa, were landowners and farmers. They lived a very peaceful life. She and older sisters, Edit and Aliz, were happy there. Though they were the only Jews in the village, they had everything they needed. They went to a good school and had three square meals each day. They experienced a few prejudices, especially from the Germans, but their mother was watching the family like a hawk. The kids got all the protection they needed until the Germans decided to take over.

They were part of the millions who became victims of the holocaust, but the story of the twins is something that not too many people know about.
