Markeya Atkins was only 16 years old when she found out that she was pregnant. She was too young to be a mother. The father, Drew Weehler-Smith, wasn’t of age either. He was only 17 years old. So, Atkins did what she thought was best for her baby – she gave him up for adoption. She was looking for the perfect parents and she found them. Rachel and Heidi McFarland wanted to increase their brood and become a true family. Since the same sex marriage had been legalized, they had been more than excited to have children of their own.
Hence, when this wonderful piece of news fell on their laps, they were more than ecstatic. However, their happiness quickly went downhill not too long after they had their son.
