Man Builds Dog Train And Takes Rescued Pups On Adventures

When one retires, they rarely know how they’ll fill their day and continue contributing to the world. But Eugene Bostick didn’t have long to contemplate this worry, for shortly after he retired fifteen years ago, some of his most impactful work began.

It was after heartless individuals began dumping their unwanted dogs on he and his brother’s doorstep that Bostick began to take in and care for the rescued pups.

The lively 80-year-old Fort Worth, Texas, native says he never planned on dedicating his retired years to such a task but is filled with joy now that he can help rescue stray dogs.

“We live down on a dead-end street, where me and my brother have a horse barn,” Bostick told The Dodo. “People sometimes come by and dump dogs out here, leaving them to starve. So, we started feeding them, letting them in, taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for them to live.”

Incredibly, Bostick has taken in countless abandoned dogs over the years. And he does more than just keep them safe, he’s also found an adorable way to keep them happy, too.

As has been reported by various alternative media sites, the kind-hearted retiree-turned-conductor has built a canine-specific form of transportation just for the dogs. The rescued pups have plenty of room to run and play on Bostick’s farm, but they also go on little trips to other places as well.

“One day I was out and I seen this guy with a tractor who attached these carts to pull rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train,'” said Bostick. “I’m a pretty good welder, so I took these plastic barrels with holes cut in them, and put wheels under them and tied them together.”

Now, Bostick and the nine dogs currently under his care putter down the streets and around town once or twice a week. Sometimes they stop at the local creek and enjoy the fresh water and air.

One thing is for sure, these formerly unloved dogs are experiencing some of the best years in their lives thanks to the compassion and love gifted by Bostick.

“Whenever they hear me hooking the tractor up to it, man, they get so excited,” said Bostick. “They all come running and jump in on their own. They’re ready to go.”

Locals adore the dog train and occasionally stop to ask if they can take a few pictures. For Bostick, it’s just a way to bring joy to a handful of dogs who have been through so much before finding a home that loves them.

“I’m getting up in age. I’m 80 now, so I suppose it can’t last too much longer, but I’ll keep it going as long as I can,” said Bostick. “The dogs have a great time. They just really enjoy it.”
