He’s What Suicidal People Want
One particular suicide survivor, Kevin Hines, had actually jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge, but had survived to tell the tale. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, he shared how if there had been someone there to attempt to talk him back from over the edge, he may not have jumped at all. He explained, “A smile can go a long way – caring can go even further. And the fact that he [Don] offers them tea and he just listens, he’s really all they wanted. He’s all a lot of suicidal people want.”
