Modern life has its perks and fringe benefits. Living standards have improved and life expectancy is much higher than a century ago. But on the downside, more people than ever before struggle with obesity and food-related diseases. It’s not that eating itself is bad, rather it’s the food choices people make that are problematic

Optometric physician and certified nutrition specialist Dr. Michael Lange has over 30 years of experience in the industry. He’s combining his knowledge and expertise in both optometry and nutrition to develop vitamins that slow down and stabilize eye diseases. “Not all the foods available to us are good for our health,” he says. “In fact, some of the foods in the market today, be they fresh or packaged, are toxic and packed full of arsenic, mercury, and other heavy metals.” It’s these toxic foods that lead to health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Food and Human Health

The relationship between food and health has always been complicated. Even the definition of the term ‘human health’ is far from being simple or straightforward. Human health doesn’t just mean the lack of disease, it’s defined as the state of wellbeing that covers all aspects of human life from the physical to the mental and social.

As for food, it’s not always easy to strike a good balance in correlation to human health. Eating less food leads to nutrition deficiency while overeating leads to obesity. At the same time, nutrition has been proven to contribute to the immune system. Certain good foods such as organic peppers and broccoli tops improve the immune system. Other foods have the exact opposite effect. Sugar, for example, is known to weaken the immune system and suppress the cells that attack bacteria.

Why the Modern Diet is Problematic?

It’s not just refined sugar that has a negative impact on health. The modern diet is marked by unhealthy foods that go against every concept of health that dieticians and nutrition experts recommend.

According to Dr. Michael Lange, the modern diet has replaced many good nutritious foods with less healthy options. People gave up on traditional fats choosing instead to consume processed vegetable oils which are high in Omega-6 fatty acids and cause inflammation. From increased processed food consumption to eating fewer eggs on average, the modern diet isn’t just causing health issues, it’s even changing the human body itself. Research shows that the fatty acids in processed vegetable oil get absorbed by the cell membranes which leads to molecule damage as a result of fat oxidation. Additionally, many of the common foods eaten today are high in FODMAPs which cause bloating and are linked to cancer and diseases.

Safe Foods to Eat

This begs the question, what are the safest foods to eat? The answer comes from Dr. Michael Lange who recommends incorporating plenty of fruits and vegetables in one’s daily intake of food. Organic blueberries, grapes, strawberries, and bananas are rich with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins. As for vegetables, turnip bulbs, bell peppers, kale, cabbage, and squash top the list of some of the healthiest vegetables.

To get the appropriate daily amount of protein, the best food choices include eggs, bison, beef, goat milk, chicken, salmon, and trout.

But What Diet

For the health-conscious person, there are many diets to choose from. Some focus on certain foods while eliminating the rest. Despite the apparent benefits of these diet plans, they seem to ignore the health risks involved in the types of foods they endorse. Some of these foods are pro-inflammatory with oxalates that cause kidney stones while others are FODMAPs that ferment in the gut and cause bloating and digestive problems.

Dr. Michael Lange is currently working on a diet that helps people become less toxic and sick. This new diet – the Lange Survival Diet – is centered around consuming foods that are low in pesticides and toxins. In addition to organic fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy products, the only carbohydrate in this diet is quinoa as common carb choices such as rice are high in arsenic. By eating a healthy balance of these food choices, you will still gain all of the nutrients that you need while cleansing your body from harmful toxins.

Dr. Michael Lange concludes that healthy eating is the first step towards leading a healthy life and he hopes that others will start to follow the Lange Survival Diet when it is officially released.
