Considered small as compared to many of the other colleges on this list, Reed College in Portland, Oregon is also a well-known independent liberal arts school. The school is also known for its ‘academic intensity,’ as many of its students go on to get PhD degrees after getting their bachelor degrees. The school also does not allow fraternities or sororities, therefore students tend to focus much more on their studies than other possible distractions. One particular alumnus was the infamous Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple.
