The image above is taken from the long-lost footage of the earthquake’s aftermath found by a photography collector in the trunk of a car at a flea market in California. The earthquake, which hit San Francisco in April of 1906, was measured around 8.0 magnitude and destroyed an estimated 28,000 buildings, killed about 3,000 people, and left more than half of the city’s population homeless.
