The Martian Dust Devil
Dust devils are spinning columns of air fueled by solar heating and made visible by the dirt or debris that gets picked up from the ground. This Martian dust devil captured by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter measures roughly 20 kilometers in height. These dust devils form on clear days, unlike tornadoes, which makes for a clearer shot.
