Not Your Average Cold Conditions

There is nothing peaceful and serene in the image shown above. It’s not the typical cold weather locals in Chicago are accustomed to. The extreme cold is a result of a polar vortex which drifted south from its normal position in the North Pole and has caused at least 21 deaths, not to mention several possible frostbite amputations, in the Midwest. The -49-degree Celsius temperature has not been experienced in this part of the US for over 20 years.
