Terry had managed to steal a whopping $30,000 from the church while using some of it to buy a motorcycle. The rest he kept in cash in order to finally make his escape. Then on June 15, 1987, Rev. Terry would invite Matheney on a fishing trip, telling him to let his wife know that the trip would be a couple of days.
