She even called her Supervisor explaining what was going on as Det. Payne continued to pester Nurse Wubbels to take the blood sample. She then explained to Payne that there were only three ways that they were allowed to take samples from patients. They would either need an electric warrant, the patient’s consent or if the patient was lawfully under arrest. The police officers had acknowledged at that time that they didn’t have any of these things. So why was Det. Payne so insistent?

As Nurse Wubbels continued to deny Payne’s insistent request to draw Gray’s blood, the scene began to grow quite distressing, and Payne is overheard saying, “We’re done here, no, we’re done,” all the while attempting to grab Wubbels’s wrist. He then says, “You’re under arrest. We’re going!” Nurse Wubbels can also be heard shouting for help as Payne drags her away, saying, “Help! Stop! I did nothing wrong!”
