Animal rights activists and rescue organizations all over the world have worked tirelessly to save animals from the wild. Their job is never easy. They come across cruel individuals whose goals were simply to make money, these innocent animals be damned. The guilty have emerged unscathed as governments have failed to implement the proper punishment and retribution.
As with the sad case of a young lion cub whom the rescuers now have aptly called Simba. This lion’s history was riddled with pain and abuse. A photographer in Russia took him from his mother when he was just a few weeks old. The man’s purpose? He wanted the cub to pose with tourists who came to the beach. Of course, lions grow up and eventually become stronger than humans can handle. So, the man deliberately and maliciously broke Simba’s hind legs so that he would be unable to fight back and escape.
Reports from experts assert that Simba became ill from the constant abuse and inhumane torture. Simba’s spine, as a result, became seriously damaged. If that wasn’t enough, his keepers dumped him in a cold and dirty decrepit barn in the Russian region of Dagestan. Yulia Ageeva, one of the brave soldiers who led the rescue mission said, “He was practically not fed, and for some reason, frost water was constantly poured on him. This was real hell.”
Simba endured months upon months of living a life that wasn’t meant to be lived. However, he was finally rescued from this abusive life and was flown to specialist vet, Karen Dallakyan. He was aghast when she saw the cub’s condition. In fact, she says that he had suffered an ocean of pains from humans. He continues to explain, “Evil photographers break bones like this so that wild predators cannot escape and behave calmly for pictures with tourists.”
Simba was quickly wheeled into surgery where Dallakyan says that he will finally be able to walk again. This won’t be an easy journey for the cub. In fact, months of rehabilitation will be required for him to finally live a life of quality. However, there will also be permanent scars. Simba is permanently deformed, but at the end, he will also be in much better hands. This is definitely not the ideal ending for the poor lion, but the rescuers had to make the best of the cards they were dealt with. After months of toruture, Simba had to endure pressure sores, intenstinal obstruction, and atrophy of the muscles in his hind limbs.
Dallakyan, still raring to do more and wanting to fight for the cub’s life, presented a video of Simba during a lockdown with ecologists and President Putin. He emphasized the cruelty of the horrific incident and said that he sadly doesn’t see any criminal case being opened for this one. President Putin, on the other hand, was so appalled at what he had witnessed that he personally promised to organize a criminal investigation on the case. Because of Dallakyan’s resilience and initiative, his wish to have this situation further looked into is now underway. His ultimate goal is to have the guilty put behind bars. This will hopefully show the rest of the world that animal cruelty isn’t tolerated anywhere.
The unnamed photographer who had kidnapped the cub denied any malevolent wrongdoing. He simply claimed ignorance after he passed the cub to the new owners. Fortunately for the rescuers, the President himself has backed them up and with time and persistence, the guilty parties may hopefully pay the price.
As for now, Dallakyan claims that Simba’s recovery was a miracle in itself. The cub had to go through strenuous rehabilitation in order to learn how to walk and play gain. Nonetheless, the good Samaritans behind his rescue are optimistic. They know that with an intense amount of love and patience, he will grow up to be a normal young cub who will eventually fully heal from the past.
As for Dallakyan, he continues to serve animals as a vet. Not only does he dote on their health, but he has also made it his mission to rescue hundreds of animals, both domestic and wild from abuse. His main goal is to save these innocent creatures by providing them with healthy food, safe shelter, and more importantly, unequivocal love.
