Whether you love Donald Trump or despise him, Ricky Martin makes a great point as to why Latinos – and individuals who favor equality – need to stop supporting the candidate.

As Addicting Info shares, between calling Latinos “rapists,” saying Mexico sends their worst to the United States, and kicking Univision’s Jorge Ramos out of a press conference, Trump is making few friends in the Latino community.

Because of his incredibly rude and uncalled for behavior, pop star Ricky Martin is asking for all Latinos to band together and pull their support from the candidate, who seems keen on harassing others. In an op-ed for Fusion Magazine, Martin made it clear that Trumps actions of “freely harassing” the Latino community make his “blood boil.”

And really, who can disagree? His actions have turned the already corrupt political voting system into even more of a joke.

Martin is especially upset about the treatment esteemed journalist Ramos received, calling him “one of the most respected journalists in Hispanic media”:

“Jorge Ramos was doing his job as a journalist in a press conference, which he attended representing one of the world’s most important television networks for Hispanics and exercising his right of freedom of the press. Yet, Trump verbally assaulted and removed Jorge from the event without any apparent reason. I am not surprised Trump would aim so low. I am surprised that we Hispanics continue to accept these aggressions and accusations by individuals like Trump who continue to attack our dignity.”

In the interview, he continues to say that Latinos need to put their feet down and not tolerate xenophobia and insults.

Martin concluded:

“Xenophobia is the lowest form of political strategy. It is something we all need to fight together, not only for us, but also for the evolution of all humanity and those who will come after us.”

According to the latest poll, Trump has already lost the Hispanic vote. His net negative favorability (favorable percentage minus unfavorable) rating of 51% among Hispanics hints at the hurt his campaign will receive if he wins the Republican nomination. There is virtually no way he can win without the minority vote and in particular, the Latino vote. Therefore, though Martin’s activist efforts are welcome and correct, he’s already lost the majority of Hispanic voters’ support.

The news site goes on to share, that with all the rhetoric around undocumented immigration, there’s a high chance voters in 2016 will be driven to vote Democratic. That means the nominee  for that party will potentially earn 80 percent of the Latino vote.

Either way, there are quite a few good reasons to stop supporting Donald Trump – Latino or not, and CNN likely has it right when summarizing:“A candidate who stays up well past 3 a.m. writing vengeful tweets about Megyn Kelly is not the man the country will want answering the red phone at that hour.”
