Alex knew he needed a job, and luckily for him, Anna had helped him find work as a private English tutor. According to Alex, “The funny thing about Anna was that she always seemed to know exactly where to go and exactly what to do, no matter what the circumstances.” He continued, “I suggested work as an English tutor, so she took me to an obscure building and pinned a notice on the wall and the next day I had 10 phone calls. I couldn’t quite work it out.”

Meeting The In-Laws

Just a few months after their secret marriage, Anna would finally introduce her new husband to her parents at a family member’s funeral. Mrs. Kushchyenko had supposedly liked him so much she called him “an angel sent from England,” but Anna’s dad wouldn’t feel quite the same way. In fact, Alex would go on to say, “Her dad was scary. He was very concerned about which direction my life was going, how I was going to ‘earn my money.’ He even questioned Alex’s reason for marrying his daughter in the first place.
