Remember ‘Dancing Man’, the shamed Liverpool, England resident who was humiliated through social media after a user uploaded a photo of him ‘grooving’ with the comment: “Spotted this specimen trying to dance the other week. He stopped when he saw us laughing”?
We covered this story in early March after support flooded in for the once-bullied dancer, Sean O’Brien. Everyone from Pharrell Williams to two women in LA stepped in to offer their support. And in result of their efforts and thousands of people worldwide, O’Brien received the party he was promised.
As the Daily Mail reports, Sean’s party was arranged following an outpouring of support after a search was launched to find him by LA resident Cassandra Fairbanks. Once contact was initiated with ‘Dancing Man’ O’Brien, a GoFundMe campaign was set up to transport him to LA so he could party in a space of acceptance and to his heart’s content.
The campaign went viral leading to a string of celebrities, including Moby, Pharrell Williams and Ellie Goulding, all tweeting their support and offering to help.
And Dancing Man’s party did not disappoint! Apparently O’Brien’s glitzy party attracted more than 1,000 attendees at nightclub Avalon in Hollywood, with superstar Moby performing a set as DJ. It was also hosted by none other than former The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Tatyana Ali.
The party gave Sean a chance to dance with hundreds of women, including Monica Lewinsky, who has been very outspoken about cyber-bullying. In fact, she even treated O’Brien to a foot massage knowing he’d likely be very sore from dancing the day after. How thoughtful!
A jubilant O’Brien told the Daily Mail, “I’ve never danced so much, it’s been the best night of my life, unbelievable.
