Stranger Saves Thanksgiving After Cruel Thieves Steal Little Girl’s Wheelchair

Just days before Thanksgiving, callous criminals stole a wheelchair belonging to four-year-old Milagro Perez from Santa Ana. Milagro (meaning ‘miracle’ in Spanish) was born without legs, and she was forced to use a skateboard to get around after the theft.

A sad story indeed, but after the crime was featured on NBC4, a kind stranger came forward to help the Perez family. Joyce Brandman was so touched by Milagro’s plight that she donated $10,000 for a new specialized wheelchair. “What better gift can I give myself for the holidays than to reach out to help this child?” Brandman said in an interview with NBC news.

Milagro’s mother, Rosa Perez, burst into tears when she received the check, which came with a note from Brandman:

“You are remarkable. God is watching over you. I hope I am your angel this holiday season, and I admire you very much for what you are doing for this child.”

Santa Ana police also combined funds to purchase a Christmas tree with all the trimmings and a Thanksgiving dinner for the Perez family, who would not have been able to replace the expensive wheelchair without Joyce Brandman’s act of kindness.
