Still in Danger

While the allies had definitely gained ground, Crawford and his men were still in danger. The fight was still far from over as the Germans watched him edge closer. There was a struggle but the enemy had successfully captured the soldier, making him a prisoner of war. The rest of the men had assumed that their companion was as good as dead.

Assumed Dead

Amidst the chaos, the 142nd Infantry Regiment had declared this battle a success despite the men lost. They also assumed that since the Germans hardly kept their prisoners alive, Crawford had died not too long after. Nonetheless, they all remembered his bravery and had decided to posthumously award him with the Medal of Honor. Little did they know that the man was, in fact, still alive.
