World War II had ended and Crawford married his love, Eileen Bruce. Even after he was captured and rescued, he decided to continue to serve the army. He did this for 20 years until he worked his way up the ranks and became Master Sergeant. The people kept reminding him to wear his Medal of Honor, but deep down, he felt uncomfortable and unworthy. Nonetheless, he reluctantly followed what he was asked to do.

Moving On and Retiring

After serving his time in the military, Crawford was finally able to hide his medal and continue to live his life quietly. He now had a lot of spare time. So, he again opted for another job – he became a janitor for the US Air Force where he could remain incognito. He thought he could just live quietly. That is, until someone came across his name in a book.
