Many years ago, a couple decided to leave their home to go up a mountain to milk their cows. They left behind 7 children, and thinking that they would be home soon after, they set out on a beautiful, sunny day. But much to their children’s dismay, they never made it back. Amazingly, 75 years later, someone was walking along one of the melting glaciers in the Swiss Alps and was awestruck by what they saw.
It was the mummified bodies of a couple, and it seemed they had been there for quite some time.
The Beauty Of The Swiss Alps
The Swiss Alps, which is the mountainous alpine region of Switzerland, was actually formed over 45 million years ago. Although they Alps make their way across much of Europe, the Swiss Alps alone have some of the highest peaks of all combined. In Switzerland itself, 44% of the Alps are glaciated, making the Swiss Alps the most popular amongst all the Alps. They are also visited by a staggering amount of 120 million people a year.
