To Lessen CO2 Emissions, Dubai-Based Company Turns Used Cooking Oil Into Biofuel For Cars Citywide

Lootah Biofuels

Lootah Biofuels, a Dubai-based company, is revolutionizing transportation in one of the world’s major oil-producing countries by producing biodiesel from used cooking oil.

This initiative brings sustainable and environmentally friendly fuel options to the forefront in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The biodiesel produced by Lootah Biofuels is not only renewable and clean but also less expensive compared to traditional fossil fuels. The company has made significant strides in establishing itself in the market, with its own fuel outlets spread across the city of Dubai and an annual production capacity of 60 million liters.

The brainchild behind this innovative venture is Yousif Bin Saeed Al Lootah, who envisions the UAE becoming a pioneer in the region by mandating the inclusion of biofuel blends in all public fuel stations. This move aligns with the country’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.

One of the key aspects of Lootah Biofuels’ operation is its approach to sourcing raw materials. The company pays for the used cooking oil collected from various sources, providing an incentive for providers such as restaurants, bakeries, and food chains to participate in the recycling process.

With an estimated 500,000 liters of waste oil collected every month, Lootah Biofuels has ample raw material for its biodiesel production.

In the past year alone, the company has converted 770 tons of waste cooking oil into biofuel, contributing significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions.

According to the company’s website, used cooking oil has the highest carbon saving ratio among all available biodiesel feedstocks. Their product has led to the reduction of an impressive 500 million tons of CO2 emissions so far.

Lootah Biofuels’ efforts are not only beneficial for the environment but also for the economy and society as a whole. By promoting the use of biodiesel, the company reduces the reliance on traditional fossil fuels, which are not only finite but also contribute to pollution and climate change.

Additionally, the initiatives creates a new revenue stream for businesses that generate used cooking oil, turning what was once considered waste into a valuable resource.
