Buying These Bracelets Made From Plastic Trash Collected From The Ocean Means Restoring Damaged Coral Reefs

4ocean has recently unveiled an innovative partnership aimed at not only cleaning up oceans, rivers, and coastlines but also restoring damaged coral reefs.

In an effort to combat the devasting effects of plastic pollution and coral reef degradation, the company has teamed up with Coral Gardeners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to coral restoration.

The heart of this collaboration lies in the creation of bracelets made from the 30 million pounds of plastic that 4ocean has diligently removed from waterways.

However, these bracelets are not just fashion accessories; they serve a dual purpose by contributing to the restoration of coral reefs. For every bracelet purchased, Coral Gardeners, will plant a baby coral onto a damaged reef, effectively combining environmental consciousness with a tangible commitment to positive change.

Customers can choose from five different colors, each representing a specific coral species that will be planted. This unique approach allows buyers to not only support the cause but also personally connect with the impact they are making.

Adding an interactive element, a live streaming camera accompanies each bracelet, allowing purchasers to witness the growth of their adopted coral unit it is ultimately transplanted onto a reef in French Polynesia.

Coral reefs are often referred to as the rainforests of the sea, playing a vital role in maintaining global ocean health. Unfortunately, these crucial ecosystems have faced significant threats in recent decades due to climate change and various human-induced factors. The Restoration Collection, born out of the collaboration between 4ocean and Coral Gardeners, aims to counteract this decline through a coral adoption program.

With every bracelet sold, a specific species of coral will be planted on the island of Mo’orea in French Polynesia. The growth of these corals will be meticulously tracked and documented through regular Impact Reports and a live streaming underwater camera in the dedicated coral nursey. This transparency ensures that supporters can witness the direct impact of their contribution to the restoration efforts.

Crafted by 4ocean artisans in Bali, each bracelet is handmade using 100% recycled ocean plastic cord collected by the company’s captains and crews. In addition to featuring a recycled glass bead, the bracelets incorporate secondary colors that correspond to the specific coral species being planted. This thoughtful design adds a meaningful touch to each piece, turning them into symbols of environmental awareness and activism.

4ocean CEO and Co-founder Alex Schulze said, “The Restoration Collection is one of the most exciting campaigns that 4ocean has been a part of to date and will have a huge impact on the ocean.”

4ocean, a Florida-based cleanup company established in 2017, has made significant strides in addressing the ocean plastic crisis. Their dedicated captains and crews have successfully removed over 32 million pounds of plastic waste and other debris from oceans, rivers, and coastlines. Now, with this groundbreaking partnership, 4ocean is expanding its impact to include coral reef restoration, demonstrating a holistic commitment to marine ecosystem health.

Coral Gardeners, a nonprofit organization, brings it expertise to the collaboration, having already planted over 50,000 heat-resistant coral fragments in French Polynesia since 2017. Their ambitious goal is to plant 1 million coral fragments worldwide by 2025, and this partnership with 4ocean represents a significant step towards achieving that vision.

Founder of Coral Gardeners, Titouan Bernicot, said, “We are thrilled to join forces with 4ocean to protect and restore the ocean. With this collaboration, everyone can join the movement and be able to watch their coral grow via our nursery livestream.”
