Man Tries To Locate ‘Lost’ Dog’s Family, Instead Finds Surprise On Dog’s ID Tag

A young man by the name of Tyler Wilson was at the gas station earlier this month when he encountered a yellow Labrador Retriever wandering around the station. Though it’s concerning to see a dog wander around with no owner in general, it became even more worrisome when Wilson realized he had seen this same dog a few weeks earlier.

Wilson continued to pump gas into his car, but decided to interact with the dog, who had willingly come up to Wilson and sat beside him. The friendly pup had a collar, thankfully, but it struck Wilson as odd that he would see the same dog several times if he had identification and wasn’t the type to run away from humans. The young man told The Dodo,

“I’ve seen the dog a couple weeks before around that area. So when he came up to me at the gas station and sat next to me, I was like, ‘This dog has been lost for a while.'”

When Wilson looked down at the collar, however, he found a surprise message on the ID tag rather than contact information for his owners. The tag read,

“My name is Dew. I am not lost. I like to roam. Tell me to go home.”

“Once I saw it, we both looked at each other and I knew he was OK,” said Wilson. “It was so cute.”

The cuteness didn’t end there, however. Rather than telling Dew to go home right away, Wilson played with Dew for a bit and snuggled him in the cold weather. Though it was raining at the time, neither Dew nor Wilson minded and continued to have some fun. Fun and friends are the ultimate reason why Dew goes out into the town regularly, after all.

Though Wilson didn’t know it at the time, Dew is a local celebrity who is known for his adventures and has become a friend to all during his town visits. He lives an adventurous, fun-filled life on the 70-acre farm that his parents own, but his friendly nature compels him to see as many humans as possible and play with them.

It may not seem entirely safe to let Dew out on the town because of external dangers, such as cars or people wanting to take him home, but his family combats some of those worries by keeping a close virtual eye on him. His family told The Dodo,

“Dew loves to make new friends. Fortunately, Dew is chipped and wears a GPS tracker so when his sneaky little self gets out and about, we always know where he is! He just likes to spread the love.”

Dew is certainly not the only dog to become famous for his trips into town, as last year a dog that travels several miles everyday to see his fellow townsmen went viral and had people from around the world stopping by to catch a glimpse of him. The dog, Bruno, even had a statue erected in his honor as a way to remember him once he passes on.

Dew has so much love to give that he has his own Facebook and Instagram, which you can follow here and here, respectively.
