Tattoo Artist Gives Free Ink To Victims Of Human Trafficking, Abuse, And Self-Harm

A scar may serve as a reminder of what you endured and survived, but feelings of loss and suffering can also accompany the disfigurement.

To help make traumatic memories a little less painful, tattoo artist Brian Finn is offering free services to individuals who have endured self-harm, human trafficking, and/or abuse in their lifetimes.

Once a week, the artist from Ohio inks people who would like to cover their scars with a more appealing design.

Finn has been tattooing for nearly 17 years and does this completely free of charge. He shares on Instagram that it all began in October 2015 when several clients couldn’t afford to cover their violence-related scars.

“It’s just something I can do that won’t take much time that can make a big impact on other people. A tattoo can help disguise the scars, so… it’s like a new chapter,” he says.

Like a new haircut, a tattoo can help an individual feel empowered – no longer ‘identified’ by their mark(s) – and more confident in their ability to start over.

“There’s definitely been tears involved—of happiness. It’s been a great response,” he relays.
