Residents living in a senior living community in Round Rock, Texas had a special online guest last April 3 to host their virtual bingo night, and it was definitely alright, alright, alright.
A Texas native himself, Matthew McConaughey, along with this wife, mother and children weren’t able to go visit the seniors in their facility, so they did the next best thing. He hosted the game via Zoom for all the residents living at the Enclave at Round Rock Senior Living.
According to KEYE-TV, these seniors had already requested the Oscar-winning actor to guest last September. The team members, along with the residents at the senior living facility uploaded a video on their social media page in order to get in touch with McConaughey, and finally he was able to attend!
“The generosity and kindness Matthew McConaughey and his family showed our residents was beautiful, but more importantly we were gifted with a humble message from his heart,” said William Swearingen, marketing spokesperson for Spectrum Retirement Communities, owner and operator of The Enclave at Round Rock Senior Living.
When someone called out “bingo,” the winner was able to ask McConaughey a question, which was the prize. A video was posted on the Facebook page of the living facility showing McConaughey with his family behind him cheering the players on. It also showed the seniors genuinely thanking him and his family for taking the time to join them. The post wrote:
“During a time when we are all working to make lemonade out of lemons, we are so humbled that Matthew took the time to play our favorite game with us,” employees at the living facility wrote. “As Matthew would say, let’s turn this red light into a green light!”
McConaughey replied to the message saying: “[Show] fairness, kindness, accountability, resilience, respect, courage” and “make some lemonade out of this lemon that we’re in the middle of … so we can “turn this red light into a green light.”
Sales director of The Enclave at Round Rock Senior Living, Molly Davis Nedley told KEYE-TV that nowadays, neither the staff can interact as they normally would with the residents, “so we have been doing everything possible to uplift them virtually. This was a wish come true! The residents absolutely loved seeing Matthew and his family and enjoyed hearing him talk about what he’s doing to get through this crisis,” she said. “It gave them hope and was the boost that they needed to get through this lonely, challenging time.”
McConaughey and his wife Camila have both been sharing “stay at home” messages on their social media accounts. Just last week, the actor also came out in a video of the University go Texas telling all students and employees to stay home and stay safe.
