Fred West was an English serial killer who was convicted of murdering 12 people between 1967 and 1987, majority of whom he killed together with his second wife, Rosemary West. Although Fred only had an IQ of 84, he was considered a skilled worker. However, he was also subjected to abuse as a child which led to his violent behavior towards women, particularly young girls whom he assaulted sexually. Among his victims were his former wife and her daughter, Heather, who was also abused by Fred. The house he shared with Rosemary was referred to as a house of horror as they tortured their victims in its basement and used the garden to bury their remains, which were mutilated. When he was eventually caught, he confessed to the murders and while incarcerated at Winson Green Prison in 1995, committed suicide.
