Robert Hansen was a serial killer in Alaska who was known to release his victims in the wilderness before hunting them down and killing them. Known as “The Butcher Baker,” as he also operated a small bakery in town, and between 1971 – 1983, he killed at least 17 women, many of whom were sex workers, who he would abduct and rape prior to hunting them like animals. His reign of terror ended when his victim, Cindy Paulson, escaped and reported him. Even with an average IQ of 91, he had an alibi, and was even well-liked in the community so he got off the hook. He eventually fit the profile made by the FBI when three bodies were discovered, and upon searching his home, authorities found jewelry that was said to belong to the victims, as well as a map that marked the sites where bodies were found. He was given a life sentence and died at the Alaska Regional Hospital in 2014.
