Tommy Lynn Sells was of average intellect, with an IQ of 100, and had a traumatic childhood as he was molested. He has been in and out of prison for various crimes, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In September 2000, he was convicted and sent to death row for the rape and murder of 13-year-old Kaylene Harris. He was caught when one of his supposed victims, 10-year-old Krystal Surles, who was with Harris at the time and whose throat Sells slit, played dead, escaped, and was able to relay information that led to Sells’ arrest. He then confessed to having killed more than 70 people in a span of almost 20 years, when he was drifting from state to state, living off menial jobs and stealing, and earning himself the nickname, “The Coast to Coast Killer.” He was executed by lethal injection in 2014.
