Having an IQ of 107, Arthur Shawcross served in the military and had already been in and out of prison prior to serving almost 15 years for the murder of two children. This record made it hard for him to live anywhere so his records were sealed. This led to the emergence of “The Genesee River Killer,” as Shawcross returned to his murderous ways after settling in Rochester, New York. He eventually killed 11 women in the next two years, before he was caught when authorities saw him near a body they spotted on the surface of a frozen river from a helicopter. It turned out that he not only mutilated his victims, but he also developed the habit of revisiting the scene of the crime. He was eventually captured and was given a sentence of over 250 years in prison, where he died in 2008.
