Lawrence Bittaker, who had an IQ of 138 but was a high school dropout, graduated from petty crime to serial killing when he met Roy Norris while serving time at the California State Prison. When they got out, they formed the deadly duo, the “Toolbox Killers,” responsible for the deaths of five teenaged girls. The two used their van, which they called “Murder Mack,” to abduct their victims, who they would also torture, rape, and even take pictures of. They even had a voice recording of one of their victims screaming while being tortured, and whose body they would leave on a lawn in suburban Hermosa Beach to taunt the media. They were eventually captured, then Norris testified against Bittaker, avoiding death row while Bittaker awaits execution to this day.
