Stephen Stanko’s lifelong dream was to join the Air Force, but even with an IQ of 143, he was not accepted and ended up in a community college. He was first imprisoned for kidnapping, assault and battery, and fraud in 1996 and while serving his sentence, co-published a book about life in prison. He was released after serving 8 years, and while doing research in a library, supposedly for a book concerning serial killers, met Laura Ling and eventually moved in with her. Things went awry, which led to the murder of Laura and rape (and attempted murder) of her daughter Penny, as well as the murder of Henry Turner, a library patron Stanko befriended. He was eventually arrested and sentenced to death in 2006.
