As a child, Carl Eugene Watts had a difficult time in school. With a below average IQ of 75, his struggles were compounded when he got afflicted with meningitis, which set him back to the point that he would need to repeat eighth grade. But what he lacked in academics, he made up for in athletic prowess, which got him a football scholarship. He developed an affinity for assaulting women, and from 1974 to 1982, was believed to have killed more than 80, earning him the nickname “The Sunday Morning Slasher.” When he was caught, he entered a plea deal that had him convicted for burglary with intent to commit murder in exchange for his confession as well as immunity to the murders. He was sentenced to 60 years but further testimony implicating him to two murders resulted to life imprisonment. He died of prostate cancer in 2007.
