19. The USS Nimitz Encounter
On November 14, 2004, an unknown radar contact was spotted by the USS Princeton, 100 miles off the coast of San Diego. It was one of many objects that the crew had been following, objects that appeared at 80,000 feet and then plummeted to hover just above the Pacific Ocean.
Upon investigation of the area by two FA-18F fighter jets from another aircraft carrier, the USS Nimitz, pilots witnessed what appeared to be rapidly churning water, with an oval shape underneath the surface. A few minutes later, a white capsule-shaped craft appeared hovering above the water, bearing no markings indicating that it had an engine, wings or windows. No exhaust plumes registered on the infrared scanners, which was found to be quite odd. The jets attempted to intercept the craft but it zoomed away, moving thrice the speed of sound, making them unable to catch up with it.
