Mohammed Ibrahim (worth $1.1 billion)

Barely making this year’s list is Sudanese-born Brit Mohammed “Mo” Ibrahim. If you have not heard of him, he is the founder of Celtel International, one of the first mobile phone companies serving the Middle East and Africa. Mo earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Alexandria University in Egypt, and then returned to Sudan to work for Sudan Telecom. He then moved to England and earned a master’s degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Bradford, before he got his PhD in Mobile Communications from the University of Birmingham.
