Face it: Capitalist societies thrive by demeaning others for monetary benefit. Whether a person believes themselves to be ‘too fat’, ‘too skinny’, ‘too tall’, ‘too wrinkly’, etc… there is NEVER an advertisement seeking to convince a consumer they are good enough – right now, for there’s no profit in fulfillment in the present.
Food companies, medical industries, beauty products – you name it, companies are in to make big bucks. Unfortunately, its populations living in cultures obsessed with the idea of ‘perfection’ (which does not exist, by the way) who are suffering.
The mental and emotional toll never feeling ‘good’ enough has on the psyche is horrendous. Depression, lethargy, anger, insecurity, and more can result, and this can cause one to chase the ‘idea’ of perfection in hope that they might someday feel worthy of love.
But it’s a lie.
Feeling ‘worthy’ is a choice, and confidence is a quality of attractiveness that cannot be attained based through physical appearance alone. This is a truth activist and photographer Joe Cabezas seeks to convey through the illustrations and photos shown below.
The artist shot a total of twenty pieces, and in the end shared their favorite fourteen with Bored Panda. The hope is to “enlighten the consequences of the obsession with beauty,” and inspire people to recognize themselves as enough, right now.
