Underestimate Protests and Demonstrations While in Greece
Strikes and demonstrations are common in Greece, and may escalate to violence. Every November 17 you can expect to see many demonstrations. This is the anniversary of the 1973 student uprising against the military regime. Some anarchist groups use university campuses as a refuge, so beware. If demonstrations occur, you can expect store closures and transportation stoppages. Needless to say, sightseeing will be curtailed.
