Next to Brazil, it has the highest biodiversity in the world. Its capital is Bogota, which is situated above a high plateau 2600 meters above sea level in the northern Andes Mountains.
Colombia is often referred to as the most Roman Catholic country in South America. It is the only American nation that is named after Christopher Columbus, and is the most populous nation in South America. The country prides itself with maintaining the purity of the Spanish language, although it is ethnically and linguistically diverse with 68 recognized regional languages. It is known to grow one of the world’s best tasting coffee, but its reputation has been tainted by the illicit trade in cocaine in the 1990s. Nevertheless, it is a blooming tourist destination with so much to see and enjoy. However, there are some things that tourists must never do.
