The Swiss are known to hit the sack earlier that most Europeans, a habit that has something to do with their Protestant roots, which emphasizes on the value of hard work, discipline and frugality. Because of this Protestant work ethic, also known as the Calvinist or Puritan work ethic, it isn’t unusual for tourists to encounter shops closing their doors to customers as early as 7pm.
