Tucson Arizona Firefighters Rescue Hawk Entangled In Fishing Net

Wildlife is extremely vulnerable to the dangers caused by human activities. One significant problem for animals is the harm caused by thrown away fishing lines, plastic trash and the like.

More often than not, birds, sea animals and other wildlife is affected by abandoned fishing lines, where they become tangled in these plastic strands.

Such was the fate of one particular bird found in Tucson, Arizona. This adult Cooper’s hawk managed to get trapped in a fishing line in Christopher Columbus Park with no way of getting free if not for the help of human hands.

Thankfully, the Tucson Fire Department came to the rescue by calling upon the Ladder 4 unit, a team that was deployed on the scene to help rescue the bird.

Due to the bird’s size, rescuers knew that it was an adult bird. This type of creature feeds on other birds and small mammals, and is known to be a stealthy hunter. This is why rescuers used a black sack to cover the hawk before lowering it down to a handler that knew how to handle this smallish yet powerful bird.

The rescue was videoed and shared via X, formerly known as Twitter. The Tucson Fire Department wrote, “Crews were able to get the bird to ground level and free the hawk 👏 Humans, pets, animals, we take care of them all at #TFD.”
