Most people are lured into human and sex trafficking under the guise of employment or marriage opportunities and then are sold internationally in the illegal trade. The women and girls are sold into prostitution and often physically and sexually assaulted by their own handlers. While many victims are caught using scams, there are also many that go willingly into the industry without knowing that they will become slaves, and others are sold by their loved ones.

Every 10 minutes, a woman or a child is trafficked into the United States for forced labor. Globally, 3,287 people are sold or kidnapped and forced into the industry every single day.
